Program Associate Position

Facilitates academic accommodations for students with disabilities; actively orients students with disabilities to the University; disseminates information regarding disability services to faculty and staff; assists with research and review of disability standards and policies and procedures as well as results interpretation of satisfaction surveys; participates in various department and division activities; and stays abreast of current developments in the field of disability services. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Special Education, or related field plus experience working with students or college-bound students required. Student experience will be considered. Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is preferred. Experience with academic planning, career development and in providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities and interaction with faculty in the postsecondary setting is also preferred. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR DISABILTY SUPPORT SERVICES

Director of Academic Services

OVERVIEW:
Coordinate support services and reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Help ensure academic access and successful academic development of students with disabilities from matriculation to graduation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate services to students with disabilities. Review student documentation, approve/determine reasonable accommodations. Coordinate provision of accommodations with students and faculty/staff (e.g., extended time/alternate setting examinations, note taking services, reading and text-to-tape services, etc.). Provide individualized and group academic support to students (e.g. learning styles training, academic mentoring, time management training, study skills training, etc.) and/or provide appropriate referrals for these services. Serve as liaison with Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic, TechAccess, etc. regarding curriculum materials and assistive technology. Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Services for Students with Physical Disabilities to help provide for the non-academic needs of students with disabilities.

Reporting to the Provost, with close ties to Student Affairs, the Director oversees operations of the Academic Resources Center including New Student Orientation Program, the First Year Program, advising, academic tutoring and student case management. The Director works closely with the Enrollment Management Team in retention efforts. This one-person office has important working relationships with career services and other campus offices. Key responsibilities include program and budget management and working with students with disabilities and serving as an advisor for some students.
