The new home of DAIS combines all the most frequently used elements of the former DAIS website (http://janejarrow.com) and the DAIS Academy website (http://www.daisacademy.com) with a wealth of new information and resources brought together in response to the increasing demands and growing challenges of our field.
On the home page, you will see "News and Updates." Whenever you stop by the site, this is the place to look to find out what is new since your last visit.
To the left, you will find a series of navigation links to take you to all the most important places on the site. As you click through these links you'll find:
DAIS Online Newsletter
The newsletter will be posted at this link each month. You will have to keep coming back to visit to read the latest information and discussions.
Accommodations in Online Learning Toolkit
This interactive toolkit will allow users access to the latest and most complete information on accommodating students with disabilities in online classes. The toolkit does not focus on technology issues, but rather examines how the traditional services and support provided by institutions for students with disabilities can best translate to a virtual world. The toolkit is described in-depth for all, but the information/training/resources it provides will be password protected and available on a subscription basis.
DAIS Academy
At this link, viewers will find information about new online professional development classes for disability service providers. The schedule of classes for the 2006-2007 school year has been posted, along with course syllabi and registration information. There is information about obtaining CEU's for participation in these classes, as well as an archival section providing a list of past courses from the DAIS Academy which can be revived for independent study on request.
Inservice Training Offsite
This new concept from DAIS provides disability service providers with a chance to make the most of their inservice training dollars and time. Join us in Columbus for the first-ever in-service Training Institutes (on a variety of topics) that offer two days of intensive input, discussion, and direction.
Distance Matters Consultation
Online learning is becoming a frequent adjunct to typical course offerings, and a frequent alternative to traditional "seated" classroom presentations. How will you assure that the quality of service and support provided to students with disabilities engaged in online learning matches that of your established services for students on campus? This new service from DAIS can help.
Other Services and Opportunities
This link provides a gateway to discussing other services and support available to institutions through Jane Jarrow and DAIS.
Archives
The archives contain much of the information from the past, pulled from the original DAIS website. Jane Jarrow's essays and publications (including past newsletters), formerly found in the "DAIS Locked Files," are now archived and available to all visitors/viewers without password protection.
Public Library
Relocated from the original DAIS website, the Public Library contains a wealth of resources for service providers, including sample policies, information for use in faculty in-service training, links to other sites of interest, and much of the commentary on issues of interest formerly available through the DAIS "TV Station."
ICU listserv
This listserv was established to provide a resource for disability service providers at small, private institutions (Independent Colleges and Universities – ICU). As contrasted with the DSSHE-L, subscribers to the ICU list deal with some different issues and some "like" issues that play out differently in their unique institutional settings. This link provides information on the listserv activity and how to subscribe.
Employment Exchange
Visitors may now post job openings in the field of disability services themselves, directly to the DAIS website, providing a more timely listing of available opportunities.
