Position: Assistant Counselor for Students with Disabilities

Qualifications: Master's degree in Counseling, Education or related discipline preferred. (Bachelor's degree plus minimum of three years work experience in higher education environment acceptable.) Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of A.D.A. and Section 504 regulations; American Sign Language skills and/or experience in deaf education; experience with post-secondary disability services.

Position Description:
* assist the Counselor for Students with Disabilities in day to day coordination of services to students with disabilities
* coordinate sign language interpreting services
* supervise staff sign language interpreters
* provide information about disability related services to prospective and current students, parents, and high school counselors
* provide academic advising and schedule planning assistance
* work with faculty, staff, and other university personnel in appropriately accommodating students with disabilities
* assist students and university employees in understanding their legal responsibilities and rights
* work closely with other disability services staff to assure appropriate scheduling of test accommodations, selection and evaluation of readers and other support personnel
* provide individual assistance to students, as necessary
* assist with the development of written materials for training purposes
* respond to emergency and crisis situations, as needed
* assist with orientation, advising, and other general office function
