POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Employee Disability & Leave Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Human Resource Services
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade IV
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serves as point of contact for employees, prospective employees, and visitors regarding accessibility and accommodations; interacts with the employee and/or supervisor to identify and provide reasonable accommodations; coordinates and maintains documentation on accommodation efforts; participates in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines for determining and assessing reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff with disabilities; administers Workers’ Compensation program for faculty, staff, and student employees; administers the University’s Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) policy; serves as a consultant regarding the overlapping benefits and protections provided by ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation; and facilitates University Catastrophic Leave Program.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as point of contact for employees, prospective employees, and visitors regarding accessibility and accommodations; counsels employees and/or their supervisor on obligations, options, and appropriate referrals under the ADA; interacts with the employee and/or supervisor to identify and provide reasonable accommodations; coordinates and maintains documentation on accommodation efforts; assists in orienting faculty and staff with disabilities to the University; and assists in return-to-work, work restrictions, and related issues.
2. Participates in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines for determining and assessing reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff with disabilities; reviews job descriptions for ADA-compliance; and collaborates with Student Disability Services and the Office of Compliance and Equity Management to share information and resources as appropriate.
3. Administers Workers’ Compensation program for faculty, staff, and student employees; receives and reviews First Report of Injury (FROI) forms; conducts follow up with supervisors regarding employee restrictions; coordinates communication between injured employee, employing department, workers’ compensation third party administrator and occupational health provider; coordinates process for supplementing workers’ compensation payments with sick/vacation time, work hardening programs, and return to work progress; determines supplemental sick leave amounts and adjusts employee sick/vacation hours as needed; documents workers’ compensation injuries; and completes the annual Department of Labor Report on work place injuries.
4. Administers University Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) policy; works with employee, department, payroll and Human Resources to coordinate all aspects of leave; approves leaves and notifies employee of approval; and maintains records for leaves covered by FMLA.
5. Serves as an advocate, advisor, and consultant for the University regarding ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation laws and the interplay of overlapping benefits and protections they provide; serves on the Coordinating Committee for Disability Accommodations (CCDA) and other appropriate committees to assure awareness and campus involvement related to addressing disability and leave issues; and coordinates with training & development and other campus constituents to create and present educational and training materials for faculty, staff and administrators.
6. Facilitates University Catastrophic Leave Program; determines employee eligibility; works with departments to receive donations; coordinates use of donations with payroll; maintains records for catastrophic leaves; and completes and/or participates in other projects as assigned by the Benefits Administrator.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services, Psychology, Counseling, Business, or related field plus at least three years of combined experience in providing reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities and experience with ADA, Workers’ Compensation, FMLA and the Rehabilitation Act sections required. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills also required. Criminal and other relevant background checks required.
