Major Job Duties Develops, implements and evaluates programs and services for students with disabilities. Conducts screening/intake interivews with each student requesting services and obtains, verifies, evaluates and interprets documentation, and recommends appropriate accommodations and services. Provides on-going service and case management to students with disabilities, including direct assistance, individual advocacy and referrals to the appropriate campus services and programs. Provides advising services and works closely with academic deans, department heads, faculty, and staff to identify and arrange appropriate accommodations. Provides faculty and staff with training, individual consultations and appropriate interventions to encourage and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Works closely with offices on and off campus (i.e. Texas Department of Assistance and Rehabilitation, the Texas Commission for the Blind, the Office of Civil Right, Admissions, Registrar's Office, University Police, Facilities Management, Academic Advisiing and academic department) to enusre that students with disabilities are getting appropriate accommodations. Collaborates with staff members in other administrative services such as Orientation, Student Life, Residence LIfe, Counsleing Center and Student Health Services in the development of policies concerning the delivery of services to students with disabilities. Monitors federal, state and local statutes and regulations and exerciese prudent judgement in interpreting the ADA, and codes to provide students with the most apporpriate services. Drafts policies and procedures to ensure equitable treatment of students with disabilities. Hires, schedules and superviese interpreters, note takers, readers, and other persons to provide accommodations for students with disabilities.
Minor Job Duties Coordinates annual campus with disabilitiy awareness and educationsl activities. Serves on University task force and ad hoe committees that address disability issues. Conducts educational/training workshops with faculty, staff and students on disability issues.
Required Education and Experience Masters degree and three years experience
Preferred Education and Experience Doctorate and 3-5 years experience
