Coordinator of Disability Services -- Assistant/Associate Director of Advising

Position Description: The institutional responsibilities and functions within the Advising Office require the Advising Office to serve as the center and coordinator for the integrated faculty-based advising system at Dickinson College.
Within the Academic Affairs Division, this position reports to the Director of Advising. The successful candidate in this position will be knowledgeable about the policies and procedures directly related to the academic curriculum, which provide the foundation for informed and effective advising at Dickinson. As a member of the professional advising staff, the Assistant Director will serve as the Junior Class Dean, initiating and coordinating appropriate programming for third-year students at Dickinson.
In addition to general advising activities, the Assistant Director of Advising and Coordinator of Academic Resource Services is responsible for providing the leadership, organization and implementation of the following:
•Disability services: As Dickinson College’s coordinator for disability services to students, assist the college to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and 504 laws by observing established guidelines to document disabilities. Review and interpret medical, psycho-educational and neuropsychological records to establish the functional limitations imposed by the stated diagnosis; identify and implement effective and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities to allow for their inclusion in the academic and residential environment;
•Academic Resource Services: Provide administrative organization and training for the Peer Tutoring program, and training students in multiple learning styles, study skills and time management.
The successful candidate will have strong administrative skills, be skilled at creating rapport and building productive and supportive relationships with students. A team player, he/she will also be a strong advocate for institutional values and policies; provide technical and procedural assistance to faculty and staff, and collaborate with other professionals to provide professional training to academic and student personnel.
This is a full-time 12-month professional administrative position, commencing January 2007. Working hours will include some evening and weekend activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Higher Ed Counseling, Special Education or related field is required.
Knowledge of: ADA / 504 laws
Experience: Two years of experience in providing academic, personal and/or developmental counseling to students in higher ed setting (Experience counseling students with disabilities is a plus.)
